Minnie "Susie" Brown, 100, of Kansas City, Mo., died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, at Kingswood Retirement Community.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Dunreath Cemetery in Marion County.

She was born in rural Monroe and grew up there. She graduated from Monroe High School and later took business courses. After a short period of employment in Des Moines, she moved to Kansas City, Mo., in the early 1940s and began working for the U.S. Government. She worked for more than 31 years for various branches of the government, including, the Signal Corp, Military Intelligence, Military Police, Armed Forces Special Weapons Project, Adjutant Generals Department, Inspector of Naval Material and the Department of Labor. She retired in the early 1970s.

She enjoyed traveling, china painting, needlepoint, dancing and swimming. She spent several years traveling in the United States and 50 foreign countries, including the Far East, Australia, the Balkans, Northern Africa, India/Nepal and also had visited nearly all 50 states. She attended Shepherd's Center for about 15 years and for the last 10 years volunteered at Adventures in Learning. She was a member of the Lutheran Church, Shepherd's Center, Westport Historical Society, Friends of Art, International Relations Council, World Organization of China Painters, Ambassador USA Club and Friends of the Zoo.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
