Declan Enzo Knight, age 15, of Monroe, Iowa, passed away on February 27, 2023. A visitation in Declan’s memory will be held at the Monroe Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 4, from 12:00 - 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to the PCM Music Booster Club, PCM Dollars for Scholars, or Declan’s family. Online condolences may be left at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The son of Luke and Sarrah (Bensink) Knight, Declan was born on October 13, 2007 in Pella, Iowa. From a very early age, Declan was an extremely intelligent and helpful boy. After looking at a young Declan who already had wrinkles on his forehead, his grandma declared him an old man in a young boy’s body. Declan was always wise beyond his years, as a freshman in high school, he already had college plans straightened out. He was an extremely dedicated student. In fact, his father said that Declan could solve a math problem in his head that would’ve taken most adults two weeks with a calculator. His dream career was to be a nuclear engineer, and he knew exactly how he was going to get there, Michigan for undergrad and MIT for graduate school. Outside of being wise, Declan could be described as conscientious, dedicated, and always eager to make someone’s life a little easier. Declan was extremely fond of his trumpet, reading, playing video games, his pet guinea pigs, and his newest passion, flying. He had recently started obtaining flight hours and ground school in order to become a pilot. Declan was a bright young gentleman, always eager to learn, to help, and to pick someone up.

Those left to honor Declan’s memory include his parents; Luke and Sarrah (Bensink) Knight, his brother; Eli Knight, and grandparents; Lanita Knight and Scott and Debbie Bensink. Proceeding Declan in death was his grandfather, Phill Knight.
