Bessie Meredith, Former Resident, Dies in California
Mrs. Verne (Bessie Mae Shintaffer?) Meredith, 73, a former resident of Newton, died Saturday in Santa Rosa, Calif.
Funeral services and burial will be held in Santa Rosa.
Survivors are her husband, Verne; a son, Robert of Ukiah, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Jean) Kling of Santa Rosa; twin granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are several cousins, including Mrs. C. M. Wharff of Newton; a foster sister, Mrs. G. H. Nollen, of Newton; two sisters-in-law, Reva Meredith and Erma Nicholson, both of Newton, and a brother-in-law, Merwin Meredith of Renton, Wash.
Mrs. Meredith was born Dec. 27, 1894 in Council Bluffs and came to Newton at the age of seven following the death of her mother. She was educated in Newton schools.
She was married to Verne Meredith May 13, 1914. They moved to Santa Rosa Mar. 3, 1943.
Mrs. Meredith was a member of the Newton First Presbyterian Church and Santa Rosa Presbyterian Church.
