Ponder, Louise Spake – 1938-1995

Louise Spake Ponder, 56, of 815 E. 14th St. N., a resident of Newton since 1962, died this morning, Oct. 27, at the Skiff Medical Center of cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Luke United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Daryl Pals, pastor of the church; will conduct services.
Burial will be in Slagel Cemetery in rural Newton.
Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Sunday and visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials to St. Luke United Methodist Church will be accepted.
Survivors are her husband, William “Bill” Ponder; three sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Sharon of Oskaloosa, Steven and Marcie of Sioux City and Paul and Susan of Prairie City; a special daughter, Tho Nguven; and four grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, John Spake of Marengo and David Spake of Hudson; and a sister, Wilma Seelye of Goleta, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Ponder, a cosmetologist, was a member of the St. Luke United Methodist Church and United Marriage Encounter and a participant in the Newton Community Theatre.
The daughter of Wilmer and Nina Ahlsclager Spake, she was born Nov. 17, 1938 in New Sharon, attended Poweshiek Country schools and was a 1956 graduate of Guernsey High School.
She was married to William Meredith “Bill” Ponder Oct. 27, 1961 in Montezuma.
