Emmett Johnson was born September 15, 1871, and died at his home in this township, Saturday, May 10, 1913. For years he had not been in the best of health, but was only seriously ill a few days, suffering intensely at the last with pressure on the brain. He never married, but lived with his invalid mother. A sister, Ruby, a brother Win S. of Mingo, and a foster-brother, Eddie Pulaski, are his nearest surviving relatives.
Short services were held at the home because the aged mother could not attend the regular funeral, which was held at Ashton, last Monday, at 2 p.m., Rev. H. E. Vanhorn, of Capitol Hill Church of Christ, conducting the services. A chorus furnished music. The floral offerings were beautiful.
Interment was in Ashton cemetery beside his father. The Mingo I.O.O.F., of which he was a member, had charge of the service at the grave and six neighbors were bearers.
James Franklin, Mrs. Win Barton, Mrs. Cora Elzberry and son Don, of Des Moines, came to attend the funeral of their cousin, Emmett Johnson, and visit their aunt.
Other friends from a distance were Earl Hadley and wife, of Newton, Mrs. Chas. Evans, Mrs. Frank Evans, James Stock and wife, and Carl Tiffany and wife, of Colfax; Mrs. Opal Welch, of Des Moines.
