Clear Creek – Wallace Johnson died at the Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines Saturday, March 2, 1918, following a critical operation for an obstruction of the stomach. He was born in Ohio, 57 years ago. Came to the farm in Clear Creek township, Jasper county, Iowa in 1865 with his mother and grandparents. Since his mother’s death in May 1914, his cousins kept house for him. Several cousins and other relatives are left to mourn his loss. Short funeral services were held at the home Monday, 2 p.m. by Rev. Arthur Adams, pastor of the M.E. church. Interment was in the family lot at Ashton.
He was a member of the Odd Fellow and Rebecca lodges at Mingo. A benevolent, kind hearted man.
