Mrs. Elmer Jones Dies At Home of Mother
Word was received here Wednesday of the death of Mrs. Elmer Jones at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Price at Jefferson, Iowa. Mrs. Jones was formerly Mrs. Gwen Ingram and lived here with her father when he was superintendent of construction for the court house and the Methodist Episcopal church.
Mrs. Jones has long been a sufferer from tuberculosis and at Christmas time she became so ill that she was brought from her home in Carrington, North Dakota, to her mother’s home in Jefferson and there finally succumbed to the dread disease against which she has struggled so long and bravely.
The Price family came to Newton about twelve years ago – the father and mother, Mrs. Ingram and her little daughter Jean and the two sons Donald and Malcolm. They became active in church work in the Methodist church. Mrs. Ingram being especially interested in the Epworth League and very popular with the young people of the church. She was employed much of the time while she was here in the Vern Roberts grocery as bookkeeper.
In December, 1911, she was married to Elmer Jones. They lived in Newton for some time, moving from here to Des Moines and later to Carrington where Mr. Jones is now engaged in business as salesman for a grocery firm. Mr. Jones is a brother of Art Jones and Mrs. Henry Henning of this city and it was they who received the notice of Mrs. Jones’ death.
The funeral will be held Friday but no further particulars are known. The little daughter Jean Ingram will be cared for by Mr. Jones.
There are many people in Newton who remember Mrs. Jones and who will mourn her early death. She was of an especially happy disposition, although always working under the handicap of ill health.
