Samuel Workman was born in Kentucky January 1, 1831, and died at his home in Prairie City, Iowa, November 7, 1912, aged 81 years, 10 months, and six days. His early years were spent in the old Kentucky home. On reaching his majority he left his old home and went to Ohio. While living in Ohio he was married to Anna Workman. To them were born two children; one of them, Lon O. Workman, still lives and resides in South Dakota. The deceased was in the Civil War, and after his discharge settled in Marion county.
His wife died in 1891. On the 23rd of June 1892, he was married to Susanna Dunaway. In the fall of 1906 they moved to Prairie City, where they have since lived.

(NOTE: Enrolled in Co E, 168th Regiment of Ohio National Guards, May 2, 1864. Moved to Iowa, Marion county, in 1865. In 1881 he moved to Greene county but in 1891 his wife died and he returned to Marion county. Burial was in the West cemetery at Prairie City.)
