George W. Stock was born in Summet county, Ohio, the 27th day of April, 1847. At eight years of age he came, with his parents, James and Sarah Stock, to Jasper county, Iowa where he has always resided. He lived in Grandfather Stock’s home until his mother’s death twenty-four years ago. Twenty-three years ago when a Congregational Church Society was formed at Ashton Chapel, he became an active member.
He departed this life on April 23rd, 1924 at Newton within a few days of seventy-seven years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters. He was unmarried and leaves to mourn his death three sisters, Elizabeth, Mrs. Thomas Streeter of Mingo, Mrs. Anna Day of Iowa City and Mrs. C. W. Evans of Colfax, Iowa
The funeral service was conducted in the Ashton Chapel on Friday afternoon, April 25th by the Rev. Mr. Neal of Colfax and the remains of this brother, one of the earliest settlers in Jasper County, were laid to rest in the cemetery of the chapel.
