Nora Gearhart Dies on Monday; Rites Thursday
Baxter – Mrs. Earl (Nora) Gearhart, 92, of Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Baxter, a resident of Newton from 1943 until moving to Baxter in April, 1978, died Monday afternoon at the home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wallace Funeral Home in Newton.
The Rev. David Raymond, pastor of the Newton Congregational United Church of Christ, will conduct services. Burial will be in the McKeever Cemetery, north of Colfax.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Survivors are a son, Francis Gearhart of Buena Park, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Bess Wheeler of Reinbeck; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband July 4, 1982, a son, Marlo, a brother, Earl Wheatcraft, and a great-grandson.
Mrs. Gearhart, who had taught in Jasper County rural schools, was a member of the First Christian Church.
The daughter of John and Eliza Listen Wheatcraft; she was born July 19, 1890 in rural Colfax.
She was married to Earl Gearhart, March 1, 1910 in Newton.
