Earl H. Gearhart Dies on Sunday; Rites Wednesday
Baxter – Earl H. Gearhart, 92, of Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Baxter, a longtime resident of Newton, died Sunday evening at the home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Funeral Home in Newton.
The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church in Newton, will conduct services. Burial will be in the McKeever Cemetery north of Colfax.
Survivors are his wife, Nora; a son, Francis of Buena Park, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Bess Wheeler of Reinbeck; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Marlo, four sisters, three brothers and a great-grandson.
Mr. Gearhart was a member of the First Christian Church and a former member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge.
He had been employed by the Jasper County Highway Commission.
The son of Hurley and Cynthia Green Gearhart, he was born April 7, 1890 near Colfax.
He was married to Nora Wheatcraft March 1, 1910.
