Pioneer Mother is Called on Tuesday
Mrs. Hurley Gearhart Died Tuesday, After Long Illness
Friends will be sad to learn of the death of Mrs. Hurley Gearhart, who passed away at her home north of Ira Tuesday morning. She had been seriously ill for several weeks, and death came as a relief to her suffering.
Miss Ann Green was born February 6th, 1853 to Harvey and Mary Green of Illinois, and died April 14th, 1925 at the age of 72 years, two months and eight days.
She came to Iowa with her mother who was a widow with five small children in the pioneer days, and settled in a humble home at Plummer’s Grove north of Colfax. She grew to womanhood and spent a very useful life on the farm 3 miles north of Ira.
On December 18, 1873 she was married to Hurley Gearhart. A home was established and to this union eight children were born, Mrs. Charlotte Ingram, of Ira, Arthur of Des Moines, Mrs. Della Bear of Newton, Julia Frances, deceased, Mrs. Mary Gear, of Faribault, Minn., Morton of Morriston, Minn., Earl of Ira and Kate of St. Paul, Minn.
She was a noble mother and all her living children were with her in the last days of suffering. Besides her children she leaves to mourn her departure her devoted husband, 19 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and one brother, Levi Green of Harlan, Iowa, who were all very dear to her.
She gave her heart to Christ about 35 years ago and became a member of the Christian Church at Colfax, afterwards placing her membership with the Christian Church at Ira.
She was a Christian mother and always tried to do the right and lend a helping hand whenever needed. She enjoyed going to Church whenever her health would permit.
Her noble life was spent in Jasper county except six years in Shelby county and three years in Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 o’clock at the Christian Church in Ira, with Rev. Underwood officiating. Interment will be at McKeever cemetery.
