Marie Jean Deaton Dies This Morning; Services Tuesday
Newton – Mrs. Milburn (Marie Jean) Deaton, 78, of 615 E. 5th St. N., a resident of Colfax until moving to Newton a year and half ago, died Friday morning at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the McKeever Cemetery, north of Colfax.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors are two sons, Carroll F. Deaton of Newton and Russell Gene Deaton of Fruitport, Miss.; three daughters, Mrs. Guy (Florence) Wilson and Mrs. Roy (Sandra Lou) Bowers, both of Newton, and Mrs. Morris (Louise) McGinley of Brooklyn; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers, Ed Gochanour of Atlantic and De Merrill Gochanour and Leland Gochanour, both of Omaha, Neb.; and five sisters, Mrs. Alva Johnson of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Mildred Johnson of Commerce City, Colo., Mrs. Aleta Stillian of Atlantic, Mrs. Albert Johnson of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Merntha Johnson of Lawrence, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1979, two brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Deaton was a member of the Colfax First Christian Church.
The daughter of Edward and Edith Jean Smith Gochanour, she was born Oct. 12, 1903 in Anita.
She was married Nov. 15, 1924 at Atlantic.
