Pioneer Resident Called
Danvers A. Couch passed away on Saturday, March 1st, 1930 at 9 p.m. following an illness of some months’ duration. Earlier in the winter he was very ill requiring the services of a nurse, but seemed to recover considerably before this last illness which resulted in his death.
He has been a resident of the Ira community where he has farmed for many years. He was a good neighbor and friend and many besides the bereaved family will mourn his passing.
Danvers A. Couch, the son of Rufus B. and Mary Couch was born in Seneca County, Ohio, on May 15, 1853. He came with his parents to Iowa when a young boy, locating south of Newton; later locating near the present site of Goddard. After some years at this location they moved north of Mingo on a farm and resided there until his marriage to Margaret Moorehead February 8, 1885, moving to Polk County, Iowa, and resided there for one year, then moving north of Ira where they resided for four years; after which they purchased their present home farm and have resided there or near there for almost forty years.
Mr. and Mrs. Couch have been blessed with three children, Carl and Clara at home and Mrs. James Rhone of Maxwell, Iowa. Mr. Couch was the oldest of a family of nine children; seven sons and two daughters. He is preceded in death by his father and mother and one sister and is survived by his devoted wife and son and two daughters and by one sister, Mrs. O. A. Wheeler of Ira, Iowa; a brother, Frank Couch of Indianola, Iowa; Andrew Couch of Caputa, S. Dakota; Will Couch of Spooner, Wis.; Warren Couch of Chicago, Ill., a number of cousins and a host of friends and neighbors who will add their sorrow to that of the family for the passing from their midst of a friend who was always cheerful and a great comfort and cheer to those who knew him best.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the home with Rev. L. C. McDonald of the Colfax Methodist church officiating. Burial was made at McKeever cemetery.
