Funeral Services For Mrs. Dan Couch Held
Early Pioneer of Goddard Community In Sherman Township
Mrs. Margaret Couch, 72, early pioneer of the Goddard community in Sherman township, passed away Thursday night at her home following an illness of some time. Her health had been failing during the past year.
Mrs. Margaret Couch, daughter of James and Jane Moorehead, was born in Allamakee county, Iowa, on January 25, 1864, and passed to the great beyond at her home in Sherman township on Friday morning, Feb. 6th, at the age of 72 years and 11 days.
Fifty-one years ago on February 8, she was united in marriage to Danvers Couch, and to this union three children survive; a son Carl and a daughter Clara at home, and a daughter, Mrs. Neva Rhone of Maxwell, Iowa, all of whom were at home to minister to and comfort their beloved mother during her fatal illness. Mr. Couch preceded his wife in death on March 1st, 1930.
Nearly the whole of the 51 years of married life of Mr. and Mrs. Couch was spent near their present home in Sherman township where they reared their family and were prominent in the development of all the best movements for the improvement in the communities of Sand Hill and Goddard.
Mrs. Couch during her long residence in Sherman township has endeared herself in the hearts of all her neighbors and many friends for the kindly deeds of helpfulness and generous hospitality to all who entered her home. And there is sincere sorrow among her host of friends and neighbors for the passing of a good, true mother and friend.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Cutter-Hartnett Funeral Home with Rev. R. G. Nye, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Burial was at the McKeever cemetery.
Pall bearers were James Leonard, Orvill Leonard, Meryl Borts, Wesley Borts, Glen Dawson, and Fred Iske.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Ellis Shissler and Mrs. Katherine Rinker with Mrs. Cleo Wall at the piano.
