Mrs. John F. Brown Called By Death After Long Illness
Mrs. John F. Brown died Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T. W. McDaniel after a long illness from dropsy. While her condition has been serious for some time she has been most patient and was cheerful to the very last.
Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Cutter-Hartnett Bumgardner Chapel with Rev. Albert Van der Ploeg and Rev. S. G. Williams officiating. Pallbearers will be Fred Rorabaugh, Robert Wilson, Bert Lawton, Roy Faidley, Henry Weithers and Clyde Brown. Interment will be in the McKeever cemetery.
Mrs. Luvada Carpenter Brown was born in Louisville, Ky., Jan. 24, 1881 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T. W. McDaniel Monday morning, Aug. 21, 1944, at the age of 63 years, 6 months and 26 days.
She was united in marriage to John F. Brown, Nov. 10, 1898, at Knoxville, Iowa, and to this union was born six children, Mrs. T. W. McDaniel, Mrs. Maurice Yoakum, Mrs. Frank Gallagher, Mrs. Ed Hodgson of Colfax, Mrs. H. F. Daniels of Des Moines and Floyd Brown of Prairie City. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, two of whom are in the armed service, Harold Yoakum of the Army and Marven Yoakum of the U.S. Navy and seven great-grandchildren.
Her husband, father and mother, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Clint Cline of Bondurant and two brothers, Benjamin Carpenter of Elkhart and Dwight Carpenter of Minneapolis, Minn.
She has been in failing health for the past two and a half years. She has been a loving mother and a friend to all who have known her.
