J. M. Brown, 75, Dies at Hospital; Rites Wednesday
Colfax – James M. Brown, 75, a resident of the Colfax and Mingo communities for more than 40 years, died Monday at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Walters Funeral Home in Colfax.
The Rev. Dale Nicholson, minister of the Colfax Methodist Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in McKeever Cemetery near Colfax.
Mr. Brown is survived by a son, Howard Brown, of Griswold; two daughters, Mrs. Sam (Opal) Sage of Colfax and Mrs. Frank W. (Alice) Evans of Colfax; 10 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
He is also survived by a brother, Charles Brown, of Vida, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife who died in 1943.
Mr. Brown came to Iowa from Missouri in 1919.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Brown he was born Jan. 11, 1886 at Edgar Springs, Mo.
He was married to Margaret Gibson in 1907 in Dent County, Mo.
A retired farmer, Mr. Brown was caretaker at the McKeever Cemetery for the past 18 years.
