George Brown dies Sunday; Rites Wednesday
George C. Brown, 77, of 721 ˝ W. 4th t. S., a resident of Newton for more than 55 years, died Sunday morning at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Baxter.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Funeral Home in Newton.
Elder Glen Oswalt of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints will conduct services. Burial will be in the McKeever Cemetery, north of Colfax.
Friends may call at the Wallace Funeral home after 7 p.m. today.
Survivors are a brother, Charles “Shorty” Brown of Newton; a sister, Mrs. Irene Godwin of Lovilia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, the former Edith Oswalt, Dec. 24, 1966.
Mr. Brown had been employed by the Maytag Co. and Peoples Natural Gas Co.
The son of Thomas Benjamin and Janet S. Chambers Brown, he was born Feb. 1, 1903 in Bussey and was educated in Buxton schools.
