Thressa Van Rees, 81, of Edinburg, Texas, and formerly of Lynnville, died Wednesday, May 29, in Greenville, Texas.

A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sully Cemetery in Sully. Visiting hours with the family will be 6:30-8 p.m. Friday at Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella.

Thressa Van Rees was born Dec. 29, 1920, in Pella to Gerrit and Winnie Pothoven Van Heukelom. She grew up in Pella, and farmed near Lynnville after her marriage on Jan. 2, 1942, to Lloyd Van Rees in Pella.

She was a homemaker. She lived 53 years in Texas. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Edinburg, Texas, Presbyterian Women, Hidalgo County Homemakers, and was a life member of the Edinburg Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Arlene and Edwin Mitschelen of Warsaw, Ind., Sherry and Larry Pruitt of McAllen, Texas, and Deborah Warren of Greenville, Texas; a brother, the Rev. Dr. Raymond Van Heukelom of Holland, Mich.; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Betty Goodyk and Annabell and Gerrit Sneller, all of Pella; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on July 24, 1994; a son, Jerry Lee Van Rees; a daughter, Melanie Van Rees; a brother, the Rev. Norman Van Heukelom; and a grandson, Steven Lee Mitschelen.
