PRAIRIE CITY - Elma D. Steenhoek, 88, of Pella, formerly of Prairie City, died Monday, Aug. 5, at Pella Regional Health Center.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Christian Reformed Church in Prairie City, the Rev. Adrian Eising officiating. Burial will be in Waveland Cemetery. Visiting hours will begin 2 p.m. today at the Walters Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City, with family present 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be donated to the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church or Hilltop Manor in Pella.

Elma D. Steenhoek was born Nov. 12, 1913, on a farm west of Prairie City to Auke and Dena (Hollander) Vande Lune. Elma attended country grade school near Prairie City.

On June 4, 1935, she married Raymond Lawrence Steenhoek in Prairie City. She worked in the Prairie City School hot lunch program, Clearview Manor's laundry department and the Cardinal Inn Motel until she retired.

Elma lived in Prairie City until she moved to Pella 11 years ago. She was a member of the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church, J.O.Y. and Helping Hand Ladies Group. She also enjoyed reading, cooking and crocheting.

Elma is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gary Ray and Carolyn Steenhoek of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; three daughters and sons-in-law: Lila and Marion Schuring of Prairie City, Lola and Howard Vanderhart and Betty and Michael Buitenwerf, all of Johnston; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul Vande Lune of Grand Rapids, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1982; five brothers: Gerrit, Gradius, Andrew, John and Bill; and three sisters: Irene Van Ryswyk, Margaret Vander Leest and Grace Van Dusseldorp.
