SEARSBORO - Marvin K. Norman, 78, of rural Searsboro, died Wednesday, May 15, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lynnville Friends Church, the Rev. Marvin Miller officiating. Burial: Friends Cemetery in Lynnville. Visiting hours begin noon Friday at Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon, where the family will greet friends 6-8 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to Lynnville Friends Church.

Marvin K. Norman was born Feb. 5, 1924, near Monroe to Major and Hazel Cowman Norman. Upon his graduation from Searsboro High School in 1942, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in Okinawa during World War II.

On Dec. 27, 1945, he married Marilyn Macy at the family farm near Searsboro. It was here that he farmed until his retirement in 1986.

He was a member of Lynnville Friends Church, and had also served on the Searsboro Community School Board, the Lynnville Telephone Company Board and had operated his own trucking company for many years. He enjoyed raising horses, fishing and loved to watch his grandchildren grow and attend their activities.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn of rural Searsboro; his two daughters and a son-in-law: Beverly and Roger VanDerZyl of East Dubuque, Ill., and Barbara Norman of Grinnell; two sons and daughters-in-law: Mark and Patty Norman of Searsboro and Myron and Cindy Norman of Newton; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
