James M. Mortenson, 63, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, Dec. 1, at his home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. Pence Funeral Home in Newton is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made in his name.

James M. Mortenson was born July 3, 1939, in Kellogg to Montie and Thelma Turner Mortenson.

He attended Metz Community School. He worked on the dryer assembly line at Maytag, and retired in July 2001. He had lived in the Kellogg and Newton areas, and moved to Oskaloosa in 1999.

He is survived by a son, Jamie Mortenson of Chariton; a daughter, Kimberly (Mrs. Donovan) Waters of Carlisle; a brother, Francis "Mort" Mortenson of Mesa, Ariz.; and a sister, Betty Lou Cox of Burden, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Dwight Henry Mortenson.
