PRAIRIE CITY - Edward Memmelaar, 82, of Prairie City, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Clearview Manor in Prairie City of cancer.

His funeral service was held Oct. 19 at Prairie City Christian Reformed Church, the Rev. Adrian Eising officiating. Burial: Waveland Cemetery, Prairie City. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Prairie City Ambulance or Christian Reformed World Relief Committee.

Edward Memmelaar was born March 27, 1920, in Leighton to Andrew and Hattie Rozendaal Memmelaar. He owned Ed's Garage in Prairie City, where he had lived for the past 60 years.

He was a member of Prairie City Christian Reformed Church and served on the church council. He was a past member of the Dordt College Board of Trustees and the Pella Christian High School Board of Directors. He was a member of the Prairie City Emergency Unit and was a cadet counselor.

He married Elizabeth Huyser on Nov. 12, 1941, in Pella.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Arland and Elaine Memmelaar of Escondido, Calif., and Ronald and Becky Memmelaar of High Point, N.C.; and three daughters and sons-in-law: Phyllis and Don Holwerda of Chattanooga, Tenn., Marlene and Lee Talma of Pella and Sheryl and Alan Bishop of Prairie City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and three brothers and six sisters.
