MITCHELLVILLE - Gerritt Lourens, 99, of Mitchellville, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Colfax Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Marvin Potter officiating. Burial: Waveland Cemetery, Prairie City. Visiting hours are open today at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax, with family present 6-8 p.m. today.

Gerritt Lourens was born Feb. 7, 1903, in Holland to Albert and Aartje Snetselaar Lourens. He came to the United States at age 7, and lived the rest of his life in the Prairie City and Mitchellville areas. He married Mable Coan in 1948. He was a farmer, and a member of Colfax Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mable; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Gerry and Marcy Lourens of Mitchellville and Arnold Lourens of Waukee; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and six sisters and brothers: Gertrude Van Zee of Pella, Elizabeth Koonce of Santee, Calif., Bertha Vandelune of Grand Rapids, Mich., Ben Lourens of Prairie City, Orie Lourens of Pella and George Lourens of Cambridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter; four brothers and a sister.
