Funeral services for Paul DePenning, 83, of Pella, who died Friday, May 24, 2002 at Pella Regional Health Center, were held Tuesday, May 28, at Trinity Reformed Church in Pella. Interment was at the Sully Cemetery.

Paul was born west of Sully on June 15, 1918, the son of Leendert and Allie (Buitenwerf) DePenning.

On January 16, 1941, he married Gertrude Van Dyke in Sully. He married Evalena Bokhoven on January 22, 1988.

He was a resident of Pella for 21 years. He had also lived on farms in the Searsboro and Sully areas. He was a farmer, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Pella. He enjoyed woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Carrie Dieleman DePenning; both of his wives; a son, Delbert; three brothers, Walter, Herman and Wilbur DePenning; and two sisters, Gerdena and Tracie.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara DePenning of Pella and Paula and Alan Driscoll of Broomfield, Colo.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jerry and Sharon DePenning of Marion, Dale DePenning of Sully and Donavon and Darlys DePenning of Sully; six grandchildren; two step-brothers and their wives, Marion and Treva Dieleman and Elmer and Emma Dieleman all of Pella; two sisters-in-law, Lucille DePenning of Newton and Catherine DePenning of Sully; four step-daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and Henry Van Steenwyk of Knoxville, Marjorie and John De Hamer of Eddyville; Deloris and Don Van Rees of Sully; and Carolyn and Ron Olson of Portland, Ore.; and two step-sons, Darrell Bokhoven of North Liberty and Howard Bokhoven of Sanford, N.C.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Pella Comfort House.

Arrangements were made by Garden Chapel Funeral Home.
