MONTEZUMA - Floyd K. Sparks, 83, of Montezuma, died Sunday, Aug. 26, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell.

His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Friends Church in Lynnville, Pastor Pete Schuler and Pastor Marvin Miller officiating. Burial: Woodland Cemetery, Lynnville. Memorials: Women's Missionary Society or Lynnville Historical Society. The family will greet visitors 6:30-8 p.m. today at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma.

Floyd K. Sparks was born July 24, 1918, near Lynnville, to Eddie Elmer and Myrtle Ellen Elliott Sparks. He graduated from Lynnville High School in 1937.

On Sept. 22, 1941, he married Velma Irene Ratcliff in Lancaster, Mo. They raised two daughters, Shirley and Kay. He farmed with his twin brother, Lloyd, near Lynnville for 57 years.

They moved to Montezuma in 1999 and had lived at Montezuma Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for six months. He was a member of Lynnville Friends Church. He enjoyed looking for arrowheads and had an extensive collection he had found on the farm. He also collected old coins and enjoyed reading about history, especially Lynnville history.

He is survived by his wife, Velma, of Montezuma; their children and spouses: Shirley and Mike Streight of Galesburg, Ill., and Kay and Craig Latcham of Montezuma; five grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Lloyd and Alice Sparks of Lynnville, and Ed Sparks Jr. and Wilma Sparks of Harlan; two sisters: Edna Copeland and Lucile Sparks, both of Lynnville; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Sparks of Lynnville; and many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and a sister-in-law: Millard and Blanche Sparks, and Kenneth Sparks; and a sister, Elsie Sparks.
