MONROE — Esther Dykstra, 74, of Monroe died Thursday, Nov. 8, at her home. Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Prairie City. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery In Pella. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements. Friends may call after noon Sunday at the funeral home where family will be available from 2 to 4.

The daughter of Gerrit C. and Sarah Boender Van Maaren, she was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Pella. She graduated from Pella High School in 1945. On Sept. 10, 1947, she married Henry Dykstra in Pella. Mrs. Dykstra was a homemaker, a member of the Prairie City First Reformed Church, Monroe Women's Club and Monroe Mother's Club.

Survivors include her husband, two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Jerry Davis and Kathy and Rick Van Wyngarden, all of Monroe, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three brothers, Elmer Van Maaren of Pella, Gerald of Newton and Alfred of Pella, three sisters, Hilda Rus, Beulah Van Haalen and Sara Mae Van Maaren, all of Pella.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

A celebration of her life was held this morning, Nov. 12, at First Reformed Church in Prairie City, the Rev. William LeMosy and the Rev. Greg Baum officiating. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. Walters Coburn Funeral Home of Monroe was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: First Reformed Church of Prairie City or Monroe Public Library.

Esther Dykstra was born in Pella on Feb. 2, 1927, to Gerritt C. and Sarah Boender Van Maaren. She graduated Pella High School in 1945.

She married Henry Dykstra in Pella on Sept. 10, 1947. They lived and farmed in the Monroe area for the past 45 years. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Prairie City, Monroe Women's Club and Monroe Mother's Club.

She is survived by her husband, Henry; two daughters and families: Janice and Jerry Davis, Mindi, Jodi, Emily, Kara and Jeffrey, all of Monroe; Kathy and Rick Van Wyngarden, Bryce, Christa and Weston, all of Monroe; a great-grandson, Bo Van Wyngarden; three brothers: Elmer Van Maaren of Pella, Gerald Van Maaren of Newton and Alfred Van Maaren of Pella; and three sisters: Hilda Rus, Beulah Van Haalen and Sara Mae Van Maaren, all of Pella.

Services for Esther Dykstra were held Monday, November 12, 2001, at the First Reformed Church in Prairie City. Services were officiated by Rev. William LeMosy and Rev. Greg Baum. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Esther passed away at her home in Monroe Thursday, November 8, 2001, at the age of 74.

Mrs. Dykstra was born in Pella, Iowa, February 2, 1927, the daughter of Gerritt C. and Sarah Boender Van Maaren. She was a 1945 graduate of Pella High School. She was united in marriage to Henry Dykstra in Pella on September 10, 1947. They have lived and farmed in the Monroe area for the past 45 years.

Survivors are her husband, Henry; two daughters and families, Janice and husband Jerry Davis of Monroe and their family Mindi, Jodi, Emily, Kara, and Jeffrey, and daughter Kathy and husband Rick Van Wyngarden of Monroe and their family, Bryce, Christa and Weston, and great grandson Bo Van Wyngarden. Also surviving are three brothers, Elmer Van Maaren of Pella, Gerald Van Maaren of Newton, and Alfred Van Maaren of Pella; three sisters, Hilda Rus, Beulah Van Haalen and Sara Mae Van Maaren all of Pella.

Mrs. Dykstra was a member of the First Reformed Church in Prairie City, Monroe Women’s Club and Monroe Mother’s Club.
A memorial for the First Reformed Church or the Monroe Public Library has been suggested by the family.
