LINEVILLE — Alice M. Pearson, 80, of Lineville, formerly of Jasper County, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at West View Acres Care Center in Leon.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Max Carmichael, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Leon, officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Central Iowa and sent in care of James Pearson, 1090 Durant Road, Lineville 50147.

The daughter of Frank and Maude (Taylor) Cottrell, she was born June 27, 1925, in Chester Township in Poweshiek County. She was raised on the family farm and attended a rural school near Grinnell.

She was married Harold M. Wells in 1947. She lived all but the past five years in the Grinnell area. She worked in various businesses in Poweshiek and Jasper counties.

On April 15, 1982, she married James Pearson. The couple moved to Lineville in 2000. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening and traveling.

Survivors include her husband, James; one son, Harold Wells Jr. of Newton; one daughter, Paulette Korn of Dallas, Ga.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Cottrell; and one sister, Doris Weaver of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Carlotta Jean Kling; one sister, Velvia Dammen; and an infant brother, Frank.
