Karyn Sue Metz, 65, of 404 S. 22nd St. E. died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at her home.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Ernest Braida of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in her name or to Hospice of Jasper County.
The daughter of Marion Perm and Pearl Irene (Birkenholtz) VerDught, she was born Jan. 21, 1941, in Monroe. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1957.

On May 3, 1958, she married Robert Joseph Metz at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. She worked in janitorial services at the Jasper County Courthouse and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include four sons, Bobby (Pam) Metz, Michael (Sonja) Metz, Marty (Judy) Metz and Monty (Angi) Metz, all of Newton; a daughter, Mary Metz of Des Moines; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gail (Richard) Poston and Rosalee Edwards, all of Newton; and a brother, Don (Pat) VerDught of Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Lillie, Mary Ann and Margaret; and a brother, Marvin VerDught.
