SULLY — Nellie Jansen, 89, of Sully died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005.

Funeral services were held Monday at the First Reformed Church in Sully. Burial was at Sully Cemetery.

Memorials will be accepted to Gideon's International. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella handled arrangements.

The daughter of Barney and Alida (Carbo) Dunsbergen, she was born March 3, 1916, on the family farm south of Kellogg. She attended the Spring Hill Country School in rural Kellogg, completing eighth grade. She worked in various familys' homes in the Kellogg area, helping farmwives with their housekeeping and other home duties.

On Feb. 25, 1937, she married Everett G. Jansen at her parent's home near Kellogg. They farmed the Dunsbergen farm until 1939, when they moved to the George Schnell farm just a few miles away. The family farmed there until 1953. She assisted her husband with farm duties and attended to her family's needs. Nellie enjoyed the women's Farm Bureau Club events during these years.

In 1975, the couple semi-retired and moved into Sully, where they lived for almost 30 years. In March of 2005, she had broken her hip and moved to Park Centre in Newton, where her husband moved also to be with her.

Mrs. Jansen was a longtime member of the First Reformed Church in Sully. She was a member of the Martha Circle, taught Sunday school class and enjoyed the church sewing days. She was well known for her well maintained vegetable and flower garden and enjoyed spending time quilting and crocheting.

Survivors include her husband; their five children and their spouses,Trudy (Ronald) Van Manen and Jerry (Linda) Jansen, all of Kellogg, Delores (Gary) Vander Wilt of Sully, Morris (Debbie) Jansen of Newton, La Vonne (Ralph) Van Donselaar of Cedar; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; three siblings and their spouses, Wilma (Bernard) De Zwarte and Bennie Dunsbergen, all of Newton, and Robert G. Dunsbergen of Sully.

Mrs. Jansen was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Alice Gertrude; son-in-law, Doyle Akema; and sisters-in-law, Margaret Dunsbergen and Anna Mae Dunsbergen.
