O. Henry Comer, 86, formerly of Ira, IA, died Saturday, December 20, 2003 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 27 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home, with burial at Union Chapel Cemetery in rural Ira.
Henry was born in Excelsior, Missouri and had lived in the Ira and Newton areas for 47 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Henry was employed as a carpenter with Lloyd Palmer for 20 years and was later self-employed when he retired in 1979.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie of Newton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Holly Comer of Omaha, NE, and Steve and Pam Comer of Newton; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and Archie Rawlins of Kellogg, Judy and Dale Vander Linden of Baxter, Carol and Darrell Noe of Mingo and Pat and John Myers of Mingo; eleven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; 14 step grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Ethel Comer of Jefferson City, Mo; and two sisters, Lula May Foxworthy of Ulyssis, KS, and Lucile Barber of Clarksburg, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandchild, great-grandchild, brother and two sisters.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials to the Ira Community Center may be left at the funeral home.
