Robert “Bob” Richard Newmire was born August 31, 1939 in Iowa City to Robert C. Newmire and Evelyn Burk Newmire. He was raised in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. Bob borrowed $ 350 and started his own business in 1969 and opened Newmire’s Auto Sales and Service. He expanded his business to VW Salvage Body Shop, Wrecker, and Crane service.
One of his passions was racing. He set a land speed record on the Great Salt Lake basin in Utah and held that record for three years. Bob sold the business in 1979 and moved to Branson, MO where he and Beverly restored antique cars for 10 years and then started Branson Crane Service to accommodate the building boom. Helped to build many new theaters, shopping centers, and new attractions. He sold the business in 2011 due to health issues. He loved his dogs and animals and would stop his big crane in the middle of driving to let a momma duck and little ones cross.
Survived by wife Beverly of 50 years; 2 stepdaughters, Christine D. Bowler and Tracy A. Lampley of Des Moines; 6 grandchildren, Cody Newmire, Rochelle Newmire, Thomas Bowler, Mike Bowler, Christopher Lampley, Amber Bowlander; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
