September 19, 1940 ~ July 16, 2022 (age 81)

Larry Trease went home to the Lord on Saturday, July 16, 2022. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Newton. The family will greet friends following the service with a lunch at the church. Memorials to the First Baptist Church or the National Kidney Foundation may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Larry Eugene Trease was born on September 19, 1940, in Newton, Iowa to Clarence “Buck” and Claudena (McDaniel) Trease. Larry attended Newton schools and graduated from Newton Senior High School in the Class of 1958. After graduation, Larry began his career at the Maytag Company where he remained until his retirement.

Larry married his loving wife of 35 years, Clara Lou Barnett, in July 1987. Along with Clara, Larry was an active member of the Newton First Baptist Church.

As a youth, Larry enjoyed playing baseball, hunting and fishing. As a young man, he enjoyed boating, playing softball, coaching Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, and umpiring high school baseball. He especially enjoyed watching the athletic events of his kids and many nephews and nieces. Later in life, Larry enjoyed spending time with his wife Clara, listening to Willie Nelson, golfing, playing cards with friends, hanging-out with his brother Bones and his nephews Rick and Gregg Trease at their workshop, and following the Chicago Cubs and Iowa State Cyclone athletics.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Ron and Don Trease. Larry is survived by his wife Clara of Newton; his brother and sister-in-law Jerry (Patty K.) Trease of Newton; children, Tony (Lynn) Trease of Birmingham, Michigan and Terri (Mike) Dahlem of Dripping Springs, Texas; stepson, Ron (Lisa) Barnett of Ames; grandchildren Emily (Scott) Sieber, Carly Dahlem (Reid McDermott), Michael Trease, Ellen Trease, and Lauren Barnett of Fort Dodge; and many nieces and nephews.
