Henry Sumpter, an Iowa pioneer, and longtime resident of Jasper county, died last Monday, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Sherman Ferguson, 2 ½ miles southwest of the little hamlet of Clyde, after an illness of only a few months, at the age of 73 years, 7 months and 7 days.
He was a native of Tennessee and leaves a wife, four sons and three daughters. His funeral was from the Kintz chapel, south of Clyde, at 9:30 a.m., on Wednesday, and the interment was in the Slaughter cemetery east of Colfax. Mr. Sumpter was well known here where he lived for years.
