Drowned – The dead body of Amelia, seven-years-old daughter of Isaac Davis, a coal miner living at the old slope of the Jasper County Coal & Railway Company, was found Thursday evening in a barrel of water at the foot of the hill near her home.
Her mother wasa ill Thursday afternoon and permitted the child to go to the spring to play while she retired. As she did not return at supper time they went to look for her. At the spring there was a barrel sunk in the gound and through the sand at the bottom seeped in the water. Here the child had been playing – making mud pies – when she fell head foremost into the barrel and was unable to extricate herself. There was but 18 inches of water in the barrel.
Deceased was an oly daughter and was a gentle, loveable child. Her funeral was held yesterday afternoon, at 3 o’clock, Rev. S. N. Vail conducting a short but imprerssive and affecting ceremony at the home, which was attentively witnessed and participated in by the sympathizing friends and neighbors present.
