W. E. Taylor
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Methodist church at Grinnell, Ia., for W. E. Taylor. Rev. Wissler of the church there officiated and burial was in Bethel cemetery.
Music was furnished by a mixed quartet who sang two numbers, “Nearer My God to Thee” and “Jesus Lover of My Soul.”
Pallbearers were Jim Otcheck, Jim Thompson, Dick Fritz, Frank Wilson, Frank Black and Wess Hartzell, all neighbors and friends of Mr. Taylor.
Mr. Taylor was killed last Thursday morning about 10 o’clock, when in company with his wife, he was coming west from Grinnell, returning to their home which is located on the south side of the road. Mr. Taylor gave the signal signifying the turn, but the driver of a truck which was following them failed to notice the signal and turned out to pass the Taylor car just as it also turned to enter the driveway. The car was carried for some distance and was turned completely around. Mrs. Taylor was taken to the Grinnell hospital where she is recovering.
W. E. Taylor was born in Jasper county, July 17, 1867 and over 40 years of his life was spent in this county. On April 13, 1898 he was united in marriage to Nora Alice Swain and 17 years ago they moved from their home here to Poweshiek county, first living east of Grinnell and then moving to their present home.
To them were born five children, four of whom survive. The oldest, William Earl, died in infancy. These children are Mrs. Ray Knapp of Des Moines, George Taylor of Marshalltown, and Edward and Ellen at home. He is also survived by his widow, one grandchild, two brothers, Dr. M. E. Taylor of Woonsocket, S.D., and G. A. Taylor of Toledo, S.D., and one sister, Miss Taylor of Newton.
He was a member of the Methodist church of Grinnell.
