Anna Beorkrem Dies Monday; Rites Thursday
Mrs. Edward N. (Anna Christina) Beorkrem, 87, of 108 E. 19th St. S., a resident of Newton for 10 years, died Monday afternoon at the Nelson Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven.
The Rev. Ernest Christensen will conduct services. Burial will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven.
Friends may call at the John-Reese Chapel from 3 p.m. Wednesday until 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Survivors are three sons, Harold N. of Newton, Arthur of Iowa Falls and Eldon of North English; two daughters, Mrs. Martin (Vivian) Vallere of Des Moines and Mrs. Tom (Mary) Baker of Richmond, Va.; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter, Irene.
Mrs. Beorkrem was a member of the Lutheran Church.
The daughter of Hans and Malena Polden, she was born Sept. 23, 1888 at Bergen, Norway, and was educated in Norwegian schools.
Mrs. Beorkrem came to the United States when she was 16 years old, resided in Ruthven, South Dakota, Mason City and Cedar Rapids, before coming to Newton.
She was married Feb. 3, 1909 at Ruthven.
