Hubert Guthrie Dies Today; Rites Monday
Reasnor – Hubert E. Guthrie, 61, of Reasnor, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died this morning at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon at the Reasnor United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Glen Emmert, pastor of the church, will conduct services.
Graveside military services will be conducted by the Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1655 and the Monroe American Legion at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Chapel in Newton after 7 o’clock Saturday evening.
Survivors are his wife, Maxine Louise; a son, William Earl of Waterloo; two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Mary Louise) Fisher of Albia and Mrs. Lavern (Judith) Kingery of Monroe; nine grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Guthrie of Newton; and two sisters, Mrs. Lester (Kathryn) Lust of Reasnor and Joan Krivin of Glen Rock, N.J.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howard.
Mr. Guthrie, a machinist at Winpower, was a member of the Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1655 and the Monroe American Legion Post. He was a veteran of World War II.
The son of Earl and Lily Cramer Guthrie, he was born May 21, 1915 at Reasnor and was graduated from Newton Community High in 1933,
He was married to Maxine Clarkson Dec. 19, 1936 at Marshalltown.
