Emma B. Deal Dies Thursday; Rites Monday
Mrs. John (Emma Blanche) Deal, 92, of Nelson Manor Nursing Home, a resident of Newton since 1930, died Thursday morning at the Manor.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o’clock Monday afternoon at the Johnson-Reese Chapel.
The Rev. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Johnson-Reese Chapel after 7 o’clock Saturday evening until time of services.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Glen (Phyllis) Walker of Newton; three step-daughters, Mrs. Cecil Watson of Newton, Mrs. Fred Hirt of Baxter and Mrs. Frank Stockton of Florida; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Mrs. Leon Donley of California, Mrs. Damon Kinder of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Everett Hall of Grosse Pointe, Mich.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Deal was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Harry Jacobs, her second husband, John Deal; five sisters; and four brothers.
A saleslady and seamstress in Des Moines before moving to Newton, Mrs. Deal was a member of the Central Christian church in Des Moines.
The daughter of William and Viola Hall Anderson, she was born June 29, 1884 on a farm in Warren County and was educated in Warren County schools.
She was married to Harry Jacobs in 1900 at her parents’ home in Warren County and to John N. Deal Dec. 24, 1930 in a daughter’s home in Newton.
