Vearl Fleming Dies Sunday; Rites Wednesday
Vearl Everett Fleming, 66, of 207 S. 15th Ave. W., a lifelong resident of the Newton community, died Sunday morning at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson-Reese Chapel.
The Rev. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the First United Methodist church, will conduct services. Military graveside services will be held at the Palo Alto Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Johnson-Reese Chapel after 7 p.m. today.
Survivors are his wife, Sophie; two brothers, Ivan Fleming and Virgil Fleming, both of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Fleming, a member of the Methodist Church and American Legion, served in the Army during World War II.
He had been a farm worker for many years, being last employed on the John Schwarz farm.
The son of Charles and Rosie Fleming, he was born Nov. 16, 1909 at Newton and attended Newton, Reasnor and Monroe schools.
He was married to Sophie Nelson Sept. 2, 1966 at Newton.
