Ronald A. Carson, 17, Is Accident Victim
A rural Newton youth was killed Wednesday afternoon in a one-car accident on East 5th St. South, south of Newton High School.
Ronald A Carson, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Carson Jr. of Rt. 3, was killed instantly when he was reportedly thrown from the car and was run over as the vehicle traveled some 300 feet.
Investigating officer, Iowa State Trooper John Ponsetto, said after Carson apparently lost control; the car went into a ditch and traveled some 50 feet in the air after striking a driveway.
Carson was a senior at Newton High School.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Community Heights Alliance Church.
The Rev. Ian Hoover, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Palo Alto Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Johnson-Reese Funeral Chapel after 9 a.m. Friday. The casket will not be opened at any time.
Memorial contributions to the Community Heights Youth Group will be accepted.
Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Carson Jr.; a sister, Mrs. Forrest (Patricia) Grabau of Boone; and a brother, Steven, of Newton.
Mr. Carson was a member of the Community Heights Alliance Church, Future Farmers of America Chapter, 4-H, Community Heights choir and Newton Community High School chorus.
The son of Archie and Joan Carson, he was born April 27, 1959 at Newton and attended Newton schools.
