Harold Behrens Dies Monday; Rites Wednesday
Harold A. Behrens, 69, of 1420 N. 4th Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1950, died Monday at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson-Reese Chapel.
The Rev. Raymond Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the First Christian Church or the American Cancer Society will be accepted.
Friends may call at the Johnson-Reese Chapel after 2 p.m. today.
Survivors are his wife, Kathryn; two sons, Dr. Jack Behrens and Joe Behrens, both of Newton; a daughter, Mrs. Wendell (Jane) Tuffin of Newton; four grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Behrens and Harvey Behrens, both of Cedar Falls and a sister, Mrs. Esther Pahnisch of Nashua.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and an infant son.
Mr. Behrens was a member of the First Christian Church in Newton and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 90 of Knoxville.
Mr. Behrens had been operator of the Behrens Greenhouse for 14 years and was employed at the Maytag Co. for 24 years, retiring in 1972.
The son of Augusta and Dorthea Behrens, he was born Sept. 27, 1906 in Cedar Falls and was educated in Cedar Falls schools.
He was married to Kathryn G. Steinberger June 3, 1934 at the First Christian Church in Knoxville.
