Lupe Padilla Dies Thursday; Rites Saturday
Mrs. John (Lupe) Padilla, 57, of Newton, a resident of the Jasper County Care Facility, southeast of Newton, since 1962, died Thursday at the facility.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the McCann Center, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at the Johnson-Reese Chapel.
Friends may call at the Johnson-Reese Chapel after 2 p.m. today.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Betty Messerly of Des Moines; two grandchildren; five brothers, Raymond Vasquez of Des Moines, Natchio Vasquez of Des Moines, Daniel Vasquez of Newton, Manual Vasquez of Newton and Gregory Vasquez of Des Moines; and a sister, Mrs. Fred Manning of Newton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother.
Mrs. Padilla was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Felix Vasquez, she was born Dec. 9, 1918 in Juarez, Mexico, and was educated in Newton schools.
She was married to John Padilla in 1939 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Des Moines.
Mrs. Padilla moved to Newton with her parents in 1920.
