Andrew De Vries Dies Saturday; Rites Tuesday
Prairie City – Andrew De Vries, 83, of Van’s Home in Prairie City, a longtime Prairie City area farmer, died Saturday at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Reformed Church in Pella.
The Rev. Richard De Jong, and the Rev. Frank Shearer, pastor of the church will conduct services. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Pella.
Garden Chapel in Pella is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are five sons, Edward of Otley, Lester of Colfax and Harold, John and Arthur, all of Prairie City; three daughters, Mrs. Orie (Esther) Lourens of Prairie City, Mrs. Clarence (Leona) Byma of Outlook, Wash., and Mrs. Harold (Margery) Dykema of Strasburg, N.D., 28 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Henry (Jessie) Hugen of Fairhaven in Pella.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1966.
Mr. De Vries was a member of the First Reformed Church in Pella.
The son of John and Tryntje Vennema, he was born Aug. 5, 1892 in Chicago, Ill.
He was married to Nellie Van Zante Feb. 17, 1915 in Otley.
