“Pappy” Elliott, Former Newton Resident, Dies
R. N. “Pappy” Elliott, 77, of Chariton, a former resident of Newton, died Saturday in the Lucas County Memorial Hospital in Chariton.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Miley Chapel in Chariton.
The Rev. J. Edward Quick, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Chariton, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery, northeast of Chariton.
Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton is handling arrangements.
Survivors are two sons, Robert of Arizona and Raymond W. of Newton; eight daughters, Mrs. Ethel Pierce, Mrs. Velma Rafferty, Mrs. Daisy Clark, Mrs. Myrtle Hamilton and Mrs. Helen Simons and Mrs. Mary Ann Gold all of Chariton, Mrs. Beulah Beadle of Williamson, and Mrs. Beverly Buckalew of Hamburg; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Fluke and Mrs. Martha Wishart, both of Chariton; 38 grandchildren; and 52 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Elliott was a former employe of V and E Plumbing and Heating Co. in Newton, retiring in 1970.
