Bess Gifford Dies Saturday; Services Tuesday
Colfax – Mrs. Al (Bess) Gifford, 91, a resident of Colfax for 15 years and former longtime resident of the Mingo-Farrar area, died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Gardner, in Colfax.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Farrar United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Harold Fay, a retired pastor, assisted by the Rev. Dick Clark, pastor of the Colfax United Methodist Church, will conduct services.
Burial will be in Peoria Cemetery at Maxwell.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.
Memorial contributions to either the United Methodist Church or the Colfax Interfaith Center will be accepted.
Survivors are another daughter, Mrs. Alfred (Lenore) Carl of Des Moines; a brother, Bert Dunlap of Farrar, a sister, Mrs. A. S. (Mildred) Tomlinson of Maxwell, four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter in infancy, three brothers, two sisters and a grandson.
The daughter of James and Emma Eatwell Dunlap, she was born Sept. 19, 1884, in Story County.
She was married to Al Gifford Feb. 24, 1904.
Mrs. Gifford was a member of the Farrar Methodist Church.
