Frank A. Thomas Dies Tuesday; Services Friday
Frank A. Thomas, 76, of 611 First St. S., a resident of Newton since 1920, died Tuesday evening at the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. Ezra Cooper, pastor of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, will conduct services.
Burial will be in the Veterans’ section of Newton Union Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by the Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1655.
Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home after noon Thursday.
Survivors are his wife, Violet; six step-children, Edward Lyons of Newton, Charles Lyons, Gerald Lyons, Frank Lyons, Mrs. Donald (Pat) Trisler and Mrs. Pearl Smith, all of Des Moines; 27 step-grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Leatha Marie Humes, Aug. 8, 1970.
Mr. Thomas was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post No. 111, and Cooties of the VFW.
He had been employed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Banes.
He was born Sept. 10, 1898 in Fargo, N.D.
He was married to Violet Hildenbrand May 8, 1971 at Newton.
