W. Dean Brooks Dies Wednesday; Rites Saturday
W. Dean Brooks, 65, of 404 W. 8th St. N., a resident of Newton since 1925, died Wednesday afternoon at the Grinnell General Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.
Elder Norman Rasmussen of Knoxville will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Friday.
Survivors are his wife, Doris; a daughter, Pat Reed of Newton; a granddaughter, Lysia Reed of Newton; a brother, Walter Taylor of Milan, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. J. C. (Edna Joy) McCabe of LaHabra, Calif.; and two nephews, Jimmie McCabe of Los Angeles, Calif., and John (Jack) McCabe Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Darwin Dean.
Mr. Brooks was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and a charter member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League.
He had been an employe of the Maytag Co. for 39 years, retiring in June, 1972.
The son of Willis and Jessie McCumber Brooks, he was born July 21, 1910 at Marceline, Mo.
He was married to Doris Ethel VanZante Jan. 1, 1953 in Washington, Iowa.
