Odessa Hampton Dies Sunday; Rites Wednesday
Baxter – Mrs. Russell (Odessa) Hampton, 97, a longtime Baxter area resident, died Sunday afternoon at Colonial Manor in Baxter.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home in Baxter.
The Rev. T. A. Thompson, pastor of the Congregational United Church of Christ, in Baxter will conduct services. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Baxter.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Sheldon (Fern) Morris of Baxter; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1941, parents, a daughter and three brothers.
Mrs. Hampton was a member of the Autumn Leaf Club and a charter member of the ODO Club.
The daughter of James and Martha Callison Beach, she was born Feb. 23, 1878 in Jasper County and attended Jasper County schools.
She was married Mar. 10, 1897 in Newton.
Mrs. Hampton also had resided for 12 years on a western ranch and 15 years in Dubuque.
