Gerrit Vander Weerdt Services To be Thursday
Lynnville-Sully – Funeral services for Gerrit Vander Weerdt, 90, of Pella, a longtime resident of the Lynnville and Sully communities, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Christian Reformed Church in Sully.
The Rev. Fred Van Houten, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sully Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the Christian Opportunity Center will be accepted.
Pella Garden Chapel is handling arrangements.
Survivors are his wife, Josie; four sons, Brandt and Garrit, both of Lynnville, John of Searsboro and Henry of Newton; a daughter, Mrs. Garrett (Anna) Ardeman of Oskaloosa; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Judy Vander Weerdt in 1969 and two sisters in The Netherlands.
A retired farmer, Mr. Vander Weerdt was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Sully.
The son of Brandt and Mattje Eraafhart Vander Weerdt, he was born April 30, 1886 in Bensekom, Gelderland, The Netherlands. He moved to the United States when he was 20.
He was married to Josie Runia Feb. 23, 1910 in Lynnville.
He died Monday at the Pella Community Hospital.
